The Alabama Public Library Service is Hiring

Director
Salary: $107,84.80 - $181,449.60

The successful candidate will have experience in library administration, budget management, communication skills, and knowledge of the legislative process. They will work closely with staff, Executive Board, APLS leadership, and external partners to improve services and best practices. This position reports to the APLS Executive Board and oversees a total annual budget of approximately $17 million from state and federal sources.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong administrative leadership by developing and implementing organizational plans and polices that support the mission and culture of APLS.
  • Effectively manage budgetary processes, oversee financial planning and contract procurement to ensure responsible allocation of resources in alignment with state and federal guidelines.
  • Monitor legislation, especially the appropriations process and relevant committee hearings by following bills related to libraries, delivering timely updates to leadership, land positioning the organization to respond strategically.
  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with the APLS Executive Board, department leadership, staff, and policymakers to advance shared goals.
  • Leverage data, trends, and best practices to evaluate existing library programs and implement improvements that enhance services and organizational effectiveness.
  • Represent APLS in public forums, including meetings, conferences, and collaborative initiatives.

 The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture & History is Hiring

West Virginia State Librarian/Director of Library Services
Salary: $50,242 – $88,526 Pay Grade 19

  • Work with public libraries, community groups, and state agencies to develop and implement programs to advance and improve library services across the state
  • Oversee the Culture Center Public Reading Room, circulation, cataloging, and public library outreach
  • Conduct site visits and attend events and meetings at various public libraries
  • Communicate with public library directors across the state frequently 
  • Share information about statewide databases and resources available to all West Virginians through the library system
  • Represent West Virginia in national library-related initiatives, such as the Library of Congress’s Center for the Book Program, which entails housing the West Virginia Center for the Book and representing the state at the National Book Festival
  • Oversee the West Virginia Regional Library for the Blind and Print Disabled
  • Oversee the administration of federal, state, and other grant funds to West Virginia public libraries
  • Oversee and prioritize the purchasing for the State Library’s databases and resources
  • Share updates and information with the State Library Commission at regular meetings and serve as the Secretary for the Commission at these meetings, as specified in state code

Management Analyst 2
Salary: $64,414.80-$95,630.40 - Pay Grade 35

The Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) division is seeking a Management Analyst 2 to lead the Imaging & Preservation Services program within the Archives & Records section in Carson City. Under the direction of the Deputy Administrator, the incumbent supervises two full-time employees and oversees all aspects of program operations, including recruitment, training, evaluation, and mentorship. The role fosters a respectful, inclusive workplace and serves as a subject matter expert in imaging and preservation, guiding staff and clientele on technical standards, metadata protocols, and national best practices. The analyst develops and maintains program policies and documentation, ensures compliance with NRS 239.051 and Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) standards, and provides imaging services to local governments under NRS 239.070. They also manage budgeting, purchasing, and contracts, collaborating with leadership to plan expenditures and allocate resources equitably. In addition to operational oversight, the analyst conducts data-driven assessments to measure program usage, identify trends, and inform strategic planning. Responsibilities include preparing statistical, financial, and narrative reports, monitoring legal and regulatory changes, and offering technical consultation to state and local agencies. The position provides direct client services such as needs assessments, training, and project management support, recommending efficient digitization and metadata solutions tailored to each agency's requirements. State Cataloger (Librarian III)
Salary: $64,414.80-$95,630.40 - Pay Grade 35

The Nevada State Library, Archives, and Public Records (NSLAPR) is hiring a Librarian 3 in Carson City, to serve as the agency's subject matter expert in cataloging and metadata. This position leads the way in cataloging practices, digital preservation, and emerging technologies. In collaboration with the Technical Services team, the Librarian performs original cataloging and metadata creation for both physical and digital collections, adhering to national standards such as MARC, RDA, and Library of Congress Subject Headings. They ensure the accuracy and consistency of bibliographic and authority records within the integrated library system (ILS) and other metadata tools, and produce analytical reports to assess cataloging operations. As part of the Library Services team, the position also supports daily reference, research, and circulation services, while contributing to outreach, policy development, and internal projects. Beyond the agency, the Librarian fulfills the role of State Cataloger by evaluating statewide cataloging needs, providing training and professional guidance to libraries throughout Nevada, and developing resources such as guides and FAQs to assist cataloging staff. The position also involves organizing cataloging-focused programming, participating in technology initiatives, and representing NSLAPR at professional events including conferences, webinars, and regional meetings.

Professional Development Consultant
Salary: $64,414.80-$95,630.40 - Pay Grade 35

This Librarian III Position will work in the Library Planning and Development division of the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) as the Professional Development Consultant. The consultant will serve as a key resource and project manager, leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education programs and initiatives for all types of libraries statewide. This position is full-time in-office in Carson City and is funded through a federal grant.

Deputy State Librarian & Chief of Collections and Archives

The Deputy serves in a dual capacity both as the second-most senior leader in the Library of Virginia and also the head of the Collections and Archives division that is at the heart of the Library. Serving as Deputy and Representative of the Library The ideal candidate will possess the executive presence and senior administrative experience to serve in the Librarian of Virginia’s absence. The Deputy will also serve as one of the Library’s most visible representatives to the public, donors, and other state agencies and entities. That work will include delivering presentations to a variety of public audiences, leading tours of the Library’s facilities and collections, and participating in the Library’s important donor relations.

Library Consultant 14
Location: Lansing, MI
Salary: $78,353.60 - $110,884.80 Annually

This position serves as the Recognized Resource for the administration of the Library of Michigan’s virtual library - eLibrary (MeL). The State of Michigan virtual library, MeL, is approximately a four million-dollar anywhere, anytime library for Michigan residents that provides a variety of resources to all Michigan residents and libraries. MeL includes dozens of licensed electronic databases; a statewide resource sharing platform that allows patrons from more than 400 libraries to borrow materials from other libraries; training for users; as well as tools and marketing to support the educational and library community’s use of the program. The various resources are provided to users via the MeL.org website as well as directly from vendors. The statewide program involves multiple vendors, contracts, and stakeholders across the state. The position is responsible for the development of the program’s vision and strategies while overseeing the implementation of work by all parties to meet program goals.
